Career objectives

The targeted skills are related to design techniques at different levels: systems, subsystems, circuits and components both in high frequencies and optics. The skills to be learned concern: high frequencies techniques applied at circuits and communication systems, the expertise of problems of distribution for system deployment, the knowledge of antennas’ operation,  the expertise of the optical devices and optoelectronics used in fibre optic systems, the use of MEMS in systems, the expertise of the different types of modulations and system operation accesses.

Benefits of the training

The training has skills in both microwaves and optics fields and has an advanced practical teaching with lots of  practical works which use advanced instruments and CAD (Computer-aided design) works with softwares used in the industry. The choice of certain options relies on the objectives that the student determines.

Targeted skills

The aim of the degree is acquiring knowledges from RF to optics. The targeted skills are related to design techniques at different levels: systems, subsystems, circuits and components both in high frequencies and optics.

After the training

The training is designed to prepare student for careers in research within the framework of further doctoral study or for engineering positions in research in the field of communication systems.

Organization of the training and possible courses

The training is based on a common core for 6 months dealing with 4 obligatory units: systems, electromagnetism, circuits and optics. At the end of this period, students choose optional units according to the specialization they wish. The choice have to be made between 6 options among 10. This section ends at the end of February. According to the student’s choice, the internship lasts from 4 to 6 months and deals with a research topic in an academic or industrial laboratory. It results in an oral presentation with an internship report. The teaching comprises courses completed by practical work which allow to illustrate design phases and to acquire main concepts. In-depth works occurs on article depending on the nature of courses, followed by oral presentations. Apprenticeship is possible. In this case, a teacher should be appointed as tutor to follow the apprentice on educational levels as well as in industry.

Internationalization of the training

The training works with the international Telecom SudParis master. The students who achieved the M1 in TSP which makes them acquire  the foundations and a mastery of the French language, can apply in a double curriculum for this degree.

Professional integration

Professional integration is made at the level of research and development engineer within great groups working in communications.

Research environment

The training mainly relies on the competencies of the laboratory  ESYCOM (Electronics, Communication systems and Microsystems Laboratory), consisted of three teams: communication systems, microsystems for the measures and electromagnetism, applications and measures.  Two contracted laboratories bring their skills: the CEDRIC (CNAM) and EPH (TSP).

Partnerships 

Industrial partnerships allow offering internship in industrial environments: Orange Labs, ST Microelectronics, NXP, Alcatel, III-V Lab.
