Career objectives

The graduates from this specialization will be able:

- to design (software or hardware) architectures of acquisition, analysis, processing, synthesis or reconstruction of a digital image.

- to know mathematically and IT bases, related to the image allowing both theoretical and practical integration in the discipline;

- to know and implement the algorithmic allowing an immediate integration both in the research field and in an advanced field  of software design related to the image;

- to master good basis in C++  and GPGPU development;

- to know material aspects of imaging, and to adapt to any new device or software;

- to know and master method of acquisition and rendering  image, analysis, processing and image synthesis which could be used for both design and development of software;

- to know and implement signal and image processing method with applications in tomography and medical imaging;

- to know practical implementations of voice coding and transmission of information allowing in particular to move oneself into projects about compression video.

Benefits of the training

The training is characterised by a complete knowledge in all theoretical and practical fields  of IT image. Thus we start from the most theoretical to the most practical: Mathematical morphology, discrete geometry, image processing, computer vision, augmented reality, virtual reality, image synthesis and GPGPU. The Image Science training relies on a renowned research team and is an integral part of the Bezout labex.

Targeted skills

The training makes the student be able to make an effective computer image processing, to create render engines in synthetic images, to implement programs or application in virtual or augmented reality and to know a wide range of theory about image.  Besides, they acquire the capacity of creating, managing, implementing any IT projects dealing with the image frame generally. 

After the training

The professional outlets which are aimed are research and development positions within major imaging companies (medical imaging, video games, digital post-production, 3D mobile, virtual and augmented reality) as well as 3D specialized development or image processing positions. The training is also designed to prepare student for careers in research within the framework of further doctoral study in the following fields: image processing, vision processing, discrete geometry, image synthesis.

Organization of the training and possible courses

The formation extends over 4 semesters; the first two are common to all the course types. The training can be followed in initial or continuing training as well as in apprenticeship.

For any non-francophone student enrolled in the master's degree, there is a possibility to follow the lectures in English.

Main disciplines

The training includes 120 ECTS (30 per semester) divided between the main following fields:
- Algorithmic and programming (java, cryptography, python and script languages, C++…)

- Simulation and image synthesis

- Computer vision and virtual & augmented reality

- Image and signal processing

- Mathematical morphology and  et discrete topology/geometry

- English

- Development or introduction to research project

Training options

In the first semester, an option among communication, Web 2.0, combinatorics, types and IT programming, operating reliability.

In the second semester, an option among data compression, knowledge of the companies, and professional script language.

In the 4th semester, a specialization among 4 gives the opportunity to students to refine their career guidance. 

Internationalization of the training

The training can be taken in the frame of ERASMUS programs in which the university takes part. This course is offered in partnership with the University of Palermo (Italy). Internships can be made abroad.

Professional integration

The training is focused on digital imaginig, from its acquisition, its analysis to its synthesis or its reconstruction.

The targeted activities are IT management project, IT development, software research and development and software development in digital imaging and thus in the following fields:  big multimedia accounts , video games, digital post-production, digital communication and medical imaging.

Research environment

The master’s degree is leaned on the laboratory of Computer Science Gaspard Monge. This laboratory gathers about 70 permanent researchers and as many nonpermanent researchers, in fundamental and applied computer science, divided into five teams:
- Algorithms, architectures, image analysis and synthesis
- algebraic combinatorics and symbolic computation
- Software, networks and real time
- Models and algorithms
- Signal processing and communications.

The Image Science training widely relies on the Algorithms, architectures, image analysis and synthesis team and is an integral part of the Bezout labex.
